American Federation Air Force RanksAir Force ranks are broken down into three levels: airmen, non-commissioned officers, and commissioned officers. Personnel can enlist at an advanced rank if they have college credits, or have participated in other military programs for civilians such as JROTC. The highest advanced rank one can enlist with under these programs is Sergeant.

Enlisted Ranks
Technical Sergeant (TSG)The rank of Technical Sergeant is a transition period to the NCO ranks and most often will lead a section of two to four airmen. They are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with established standards, providing a positive influence and example for their subordinates.

Sergeant First Class (SFC)The sergeant first class is a senior level of the NCO ranks in the Air Force. SFC's are qualified to perform highly complex technical duties in addition to providing supervision. In addition, they're responsible for the career development of each subordinate under their supervision.

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force (CMA)The chief master sergeant of the Air Force is a unique NCO rank in the Air Force because their can be only one holder of this rank at a time. The rank of CMA represents the highest enlisted level of leadership in the Air Force, and as such, provides direction for the enlisted corps.

Officer Ranks
General of the Air Force (GAF)Like the General of the Army, there is only one General of the Air Force. The GAF outranks all military personnel in the F.A. Armed Forces as well as foreign militaries, excluding the General of the Army. The General of the Air Force is in command of the entire F.A. Air Force.
